Print-quality QR code

Create QR artwork that survives the journey from screen to print

A code that scans in a browser preview can still fail after resizing, color conversion, lamination, or placement. Generate a clean file, preserve its geometry, and proof the finished piece.

Print-quality QR code generator

Use a short final URL, generate the code, and download SVG for layout or PNG for standard office documents.

Print contexts need different decisions

Handheld

Cards, labels, and brochures

Short viewing distance allows smaller codes, but paper texture and fine modules still matter.

Display

Posters and window signs

Increase code size for approach distance, glare, motion, and imperfect camera angles.

Industrial

Packaging and equipment

Account for curvature, ink spread, abrasion, production tolerances, and long service life.

Example: A3 event poster

The designer uses a short schedule URL, 35 mm SVG code, white border, and a plain-language call to action.

Common print-production failures

Cropping the white border

The quiet zone separates the symbol from surrounding text and images.

Using low contrast

Pastels, metallic inks, transparent backgrounds, and reversed colors need careful physical testing.

Resampling a tiny screenshot

Use the supplied SVG or high-resolution PNG instead of enlarging a browser capture.

Testing only the PDF on screen

Print processes and surfaces introduce real changes. Scan the final production proof.

Printing QR codes: FAQ

What is the minimum QR code size?

There is no universal minimum. Around 20–25 mm is a common starting point for short URLs at close range, followed by testing.

How does scan distance affect size?

A useful starting ratio is about 10:1: a code scanned from one meter may need to be roughly ten centimeters wide. Conditions can require more.

Should I use CMYK colors?

Your print workflow may convert to CMYK. Ensure the resulting dark and light areas retain strong contrast, then inspect a proof.

Is high error correction always better?

It adds redundancy but also creates a denser pattern. Use it when damage or a permitted central mark warrants it, not automatically.

SVG or PNG for print?

SVG is preferred for professional layout because it scales cleanly. A sufficiently large PNG can work in office software when not enlarged beyond its pixel dimensions.
